This milestone performance also celebrates the 60th anniversary of his landmark album, Whipped Cream & Other Delights — a record that spent eight weeks at No. 1 after its 1965 release and helped define the sound of the 1960s.
During his prime, Herb Alpert’s distinct brass sound, inspired by the energy of Tijuana bullfights, became a signature part of American pop culture.
His music filled commercials, game shows like The Dating Game, and even films like Casino Royale.
In fact, at the height of his success in 1966, Alpert pulled off a stunning feat: he had three albums simultaneously in the top five — outselling even The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Frank Sinatra.
Even today, Herb’s influence continues to surprise.
His classic hit Ladyfingers has recently found new life on TikTok, generating what he described as “three billion streams” on YouTube — a phenomenon he finds “strange, because I recorded it like 60 years ago.”
From the golden days of AM radio to the viral hits of today, Herb Alpert’s music proves that timeless melodies never go out of style.
Here’s to 90 amazing years, Herb — and to the music that still gets us tapping our feet!
